Volunteers at the finish line gave an enthusiastic welcome to those who walked a 6.2 mile loop in Golden Gate Park for San Francisco's 22nd Annual AIDS Walk Sunday.
Craig Miller, who founded the AIDS Walk in 1987, said he can hardly believe how many people participated this year.
"About 25,000 people have taken to the streets of San Francisco to show their support for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, and their determination to overcome the AIDS epidemic.
It's been great despite a challenging economy, people have made a real effort to support the San Francisco AIDS foundation."
Since its inception, the event has raised more than $65 million.
Miller said the AIDS epidemic has shown itself to be tenacious and stubborn and said he believes that's why so many people continue to come out every year and raise money to help fight it.
