The manager of a tug boat company has been indicted by the U.S. Attorney in Northern California for allegedly dumping dredged materials into San Francisco Bay without a permit.
The indictment filed in U.S. District Court this week claimed Mark Guinn, as general manager of Brusco Tug & Barge, violated the Clean Water Act. It charges him with four felony violations of dumping without a permit around Winter Island between 2003 and 2007.
The maximum possible penalty for each count is three years and a $250,000 fine.
Guinn's attorney Brian Getz said his client is a respected waterman who has managed thousands of dredging operations with no previous violations. Getz says the 41-year-old Guinn will plead not guilty.
