13,000 Pieces Of Lost Bonny Doon Mail Found In Van

SCOTTS VALLEY (AP) ― Postal officials said residents in the Santa Cruz Mountains will finally receive about 13,000 pieces of mail found stashed in the van of a former mail carrier.

Scotts Valley police found the mail last week when they checked on the parked van, which had its keys hanging in the door.

The bundles of mail addressed to Bonny Doon residents date to 2006 and earlier.

Bay Valley Postal Service spokesman Gus Ruiz said no one's privacy was compromised because none of the mail was ever opened, and no one had complained about the missing mail.

Authorities said the van belonged to a 78-year-old man contracted by the U.S. Postal Service for the last eight years to deliver mail.

He quit in June.

Ruiz said it wasn't known whether the man would face any penalties.
