CSU Trustees Name New San Jose State President

SAN JOSE (AP) ― The California State University Board of Trustees has named a new president for San Jose State University.

The board said Wednesday that Texas Tech University President Jon Whitmore will take over the San Jose State presidency in August. He was one of three finalists who visited the campus last week.

Whitmore will succeed retiring President Don Kassing, who is retiring after leading the university for the past four years.

The Board of Trustees will set Whitmore's compensation when it meets in July.

Whitmore has served as president of Texas Tech since 2003. He previously served as a provost and theater professor at the University of Iowa and was dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin.
