SF Police Chase Ends In Potrero Hill Crash

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― Five robbery suspects were injured after crashing a sport utility vehicle while attempting to flee from police in San Francisco early Friday morning, a police sergeant said.

The robbery occurred around 2:45 a.m. at Broadway and Montgomery Street. The five suspects approached a man as he was going from a club to a restaurant and demanded his necklace and ring, San Francisco police Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said.

One of the suspects produced a black semi-automatic handgun, and upon receiving the victim's jewelry, all five suspects ran west on Broadway and got into a white Toyota Four Runner, Tomioka said.

A witness immediately reported the incident to police, who responded within minutes to the scene.

They broadcast a description of the suspects and vehicle, and three minutes later officers saw the vehicle on The Embarcadero, Tomioka said.

The officers pursued the SUV, which failed to yield until it crashed into a semi truck at Cesar Chavez and Illinois streets.

All five suspects were injured in the crash and transported to San Francisco General Hospital. Two have since been released and taken into custody. The other three, who were more seriously injured, remained hospitalized this afternoon under arrest, Tomioka said.
