Digging Crew Ruptures Gas Main In San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
A gas main break was reported Wednesday afternoon in San Francisco, a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. spokeswoman said.
The break occurred sometime after noon as a crew was digging near Bayshore Boulevard and Industrial Street, PG&E spokeswoman Brandi Ehlers said.
A PG&E employee was on site as of 1:15 p.m., and Ehlers said the agency was waiting for a repair crew to arrive before releasing further information.
Employees of GGI Granite and Commercial Tire of San Francisco, both located at that intersection, said their businesses had not been evacuated.
They said at about 1:45 p.m. that there was not a strong smell of gas in the air but that at least part of Bayshore Boulevard had been blocked off.
California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Kroncke said shortly before 2 p.m. that the Bayshore Boulevard off-ramp from northbound U.S. Highway 101 was closed due to the gas main break.
