An 18-year-old Orinda man was arrested after his friend collapsed and died at a house party where police said teenagers had been drinking heavily, authorities said Monday.
Authorities planned an autopsy to determine the cause of death for 16-year-old Joseph Loudon.
The Miramonte High School sophomore was found passed out at the party late Saturday night and taken to Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek, where he was declared dead.
Patrick Gabrielli III was arrested Sunday on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and giving alcohol to a minor. He was released on $5,000 bail and could not be reached for comment.
Orinda Police Chief Bill French said as many as 60 people all under 21 attended the party hosted by Gabrielli, at his family's home in the 100 block of Hillcrest Drive, while his mother and stepfather were out of town.
French said police were still trying to determine who provided the alcohol and there could be more arrests.
