San Francisco International Airport officials said a Northwest Airlines jet experienced an engine problem after takeoff Thursday, forcing it to return to the airport.
SFO spokesman Mike McCarron said an engine compressor on the Airbus A330 failed, disrupting air flow to the engine after its 1:35 p.m. takeoff.
McCarron said all 194 passengers aboard Northwest Flight 27 were safe and the airport saw no delays because of the incident.
An Air France Airbus A330 crashed in the Atlantic Ocean on June 1 during a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris after hitting a thunderstorm.
