Trial Nears In Case Of Murdered Martinez Wife
MARTINEZ (BCN) ―
A trial is scheduled to begin in Martinez this week for a man accused of murdering his wife in the couple's home in Rodeo two years ago, according to prosecutor Danielle Douglas.
Steven Burr, 38, is charged with one count of murder in connection with the June 26, 2006 death of 40-year-old Diana Basham.
Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies found Basham's body inside the couple's home in the 600 block of San Pablo Avenue in the unincorporated town of Rodeo, Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said shortly after the alleged murder.
Deputies arrested Burr at a local hospital a short time later, where he was receiving treatment for injuries he allegedly sustained during the killing, police reported.
The coroner's office determined that Basham died from blunt force trauma and strangulation, according to Lee.
Burr has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Attorneys are scheduled to give opening statements in the trial
either this afternoon or Tuesday morning, according to Douglas.
