Huge New SF Hotel Hopes To Serve Moscone Crowds
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
The InterContinental San Francisco, the largest hotel to open in the city in nearly 20 years, welcomed the public to its location on the corner of Howard and Fifth streets Thursday, hotel officials said.
The 32-story glass tower hotel features 550 rooms, a spa, two ballrooms and a restaurant and bar, and is located near the Moscone Center.
The building was designed by a San Francisco architecture firm and offers 43,000 square feet of meeting space, including 23 meeting rooms.
The location of the hotel provides a convenient boarding and meeting place for travelers and convention delegates visiting the Moscone Center, Leonard Hoops of the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau said.
"When we opened up Moscone West in 2003 it really created a need for more rooms in the area," Hoops said. "The opening really helps with the additional demand. It is a very welcome addition to the hotel landscape here."
Hoops added that the addition of the hotel and other businesses
around the Moscone Center has helped the South of Market neighborhood
blossom, improving the overall experience for tourists and business travelers.
