Hayward Man Living In Car Gets Carjacked
HAYWARD (BCN) ―
Two men in Hayward allegedly kicked a man out of the car he was living in Thursday morning, stole it and then drove it to a Home Depot where police arrested them, a police lieutenant said.
The three were acquaintances, and the two suspects in their 20s had asked the man living in his 2000 Honda Civic at Winton Avenue and Grand Street to take them to Home Depot around 7:30 a.m., police Lt. Larry Vargas said.
Police suspect the two beat the car owner and stole his keys when he refused to drive them.
The owner was treated for some wounds but did not need to go to a hospital, he said.
Security at the Home Depot at 21787 Hesperian Boulevard had heard about the carjacking from police and called officers when they saw the Honda about an hour later, Vargas said.
"They must have gone to a few places first because it shouldn't have taken that long to get there," he said.
He did not know why they wanted to go to Home Depot.
The men were arrested on suspicion of carjacking.
