Man Arrested For Cotati Attempted Rape, Burglary
COTATI (BCN) ―
Police arrested an Occidental man early Saturday for allegedly attempting to rape a Cotati woman inside her home, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department reported.
According to the Sgt. Greg Miller with the Sheriff's Department's Domestic Violence Sexual Assault unit, a 21-year-old woman living in a rural part of Cotati was awakened at about 3 a.m. by a naked intruder who attempted to sexually assault her.
The woman fought the suspect off and he fled before sheriff's deputies arrived, Miller reported.
Cotati police responding to the scene tried to stop a vehicle leaving the area and after a brief pursuit, arrested 33-year-old Jaime Hernandez Gonzalez, according to Miller.
The victim and a friend of hers who was also inside the home at the time positively identified Gonzalez as the suspect, Miller reported.
The victim was left with a broken hand, as well as abrasions and scratches, according to Miller.
Gonzalez was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of attempted rape, assault with the intent to commit a sexual offense, burglary and evading a police officer.
