Memorial services were held Saturday for the Pleasanton couple found brutally beaten to death more than a week ago.
This morning's funeral in Pleasanton came eight days after the bodies of Ernie Scherer and Charlene Abendroth were discovered inside their home at the Castlewood Country Club.
Ernie Scherer's sister, Carolyn Scherer-Osterley, issued a brief statement before this morning's private funeral service. She asked that the media respect the family's privacy in this time of incredible personal tragedy. Scherer-Osterley went on to say that her brother and his wife did not deserve the fate they were dealt and will be sorely missed.
Meanwhile, the couple's gruesome killing has prompted a nationwide search for suspects. Nearly 100 law enforcement personnel are conducting an intense search of the neighborhood where the couple was killed. Everything from dog teams to metal detectors is being used to crack the case.
