7-year-old Xiana Fairchild disappeared in December 1999.
Convicted sex offender Curtis Dean Anderson Thursday pleaded guilty to the kidnapping, murder and molestation of 7-year-old Xiana Fairchild in 1999.
It was a surprise move by Anderson, who was to go on trial for the murder next year.
Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge James Emerson immediately sentenced Anderson to 50 years to life in prison. Prosecutors had considering seeking the death penalty.
Anderson is already serving a 251-year prison sentence for abducting and molesting another young girl in Solano County in 2000.
Xiana disappeared on her way to her Vallejo school December 9, 1999. Part of her remains were found in the Santa Cruz Mountains in January 2000.
