CSU Officials Freeze Salaries And Hiring

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ― California State University officials are freezing salaries and hiring to control costs in the face of the state's budget crisis.

Officials with the 23-campus system announced Friday that salaries would be frozen for senior administrators, including campus presidents and the chancellor.

CSU has also implemented a hiring freeze on all but essential positions, canceled purchases of equipment and supplies and restricted employee travel.

CSU Chancellor Charles Reed says the cost cutting measures come as the state's financial situation continues to deteriorate.
