Lane Changes Made On Benicia-Martinez Bridge

BENICIA (CBS 5 / KCBS) ― Monday commuters traveling southbound over the Benicia-Martinez bridge likely noticed some changes.

"Friday night we changed the southbound traffic from the right-hand side of the bridge over to the left-hand side of the bridge," said Caltrans spokesman Bob Haus. "That will allow us to finish up the work we're doing. Both the rehab work, and rebuilding of the north and southbound approaches."

The adjustments are part of Caltrans' efforts to renovate the old Benicia Bridge, which was converted to southbound traffic when a new five-lane bridge opened in August 2007 to carry northbound traffic.

The renovations are expected to be completed in fall of 2009.
