BART Holiday Ridership To SFO Sets New Record

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― Travelers boarded Bay Area Rapid Transit trains headed to San Francisco International Airport in record-setting numbers during Christmas week, officials announced Friday.

Officials said 62,400 people used BART to travel to the airport between Dec. 21 and Thursday, a 20 percent bump above the same time period last year.

The number of BART passengers heading to SFO during Christmas week has increased each year since the SFO station opened in 2003, according to officials. This year's Christmas week experienced a 56 percent rider increase when compared with 2003.

Reasons cited for the increase include the "Kids Ride Free" promotion, which allowed children ages 12 and under to ride free on Dec. 22, and an increase in the number of long-term parking spaces at BART stations, according to officials.
