Excerpts From SF Tiger Attack 911 Calls

(AP) The following are excerpts of a 911 recording made between 5:06 p.m. and 5:22 p.m. on Dec. 25. A male zoo employee is on the phone with a dispatcher relaying information he is getting from co-workers over a walky-talky.

- Dispatcher: "Is the patient saying he was bitten?"
Male zoo employee: "He was saying he was bitten by an animal, but there is no animal escaped so he could just be crazy."

- Female zoo employee: "He is saying he got attacked by a lion."
Male zoo employee: "That is virtually impossible."
Female zoo employee: "I'm walking away from him right now so I can talk to you."
Male zoo employee: "I'm heading over in that direction. I can't imagine how he could have possibly gotten attacked by a lion. He would have had to go in, I just can't see it."

- Female zoo employee: "I got a tiger out. Code One. By the yellow picnic site. Code One. Trooper, stay put."
Unidentified person: "What? What kind of animal?"
Male zoo employee: "We have a Code One. They say they have a
tiger out."
Female zoo employee: "Trooper, get on the other side and close the gate."
Male zoo employee: "OK, the tiger is out. They are closing up the south gate."
Female zoo employee: "Trooper, don't open up the gate. Tell the SFPD to get on the radio when they get here."
Dispatcher: "It's fire that's there first."
Male zoo employee: "The tiger is walking around, but it's calm
now."

- Male zoo employee speaking to someone: "Just to let you know.
One of the tigers got loose, so you are going to have to tell everybody to clear out quickly."
Male zoo employee to visitors: "The zoo is closed. They are in a situation so you are going to have to leave quickly. ... Please hurry."
Female zoo employee: "I am clearing the zoo. Get everybody out, parking lot, front gate. Get everybody out."

The following are excerpts from a seven-minute recording made between 5:16 p.m. and 5:23 p.m. on Dec. 25, between one of the Dhaliwal brothers outside the zoo cafe and a San Francisco 911 dispatcher.

-Dispatcher: "OK. I'm just going to stay on the line with you until the paramedics are with you, alright?"
Brother: "OK. Can you check up on them and see where they're at?"
Dispatcher: "They're on scene right now, but they have to stage until they're given permission to go inside."
Brother: "It's a matter of life and death!"

- Dispatcher: "OK, the ambulance is staging. I need you to understand that the ambulance ..."
Brother: "What you need to understand is my brother is about to die out here!"
(Brother shouting, 911 dispatcher talking over him)
Dispatcher: "OK, calm down. I'm going to stay on the line with
you. If the paramedics get hurt, they cannot help your brother, so you need to calm down."

- Brother: "Can you fly a helicopter out here? Because I don't see a (expletive) ambulance here."
Dispatcher: "OK, stay calm. You have to stay calm for your brother, all right?"
Brother: "Man, it does not take this long to get an ambulance out here."
