Niners Unveil Old-School New Uniforms

SANTA CLARA (CBS 5 / AP) ― The San Francisco 49ers' new uniforms look awfully familiar.

The Niners unveiled a slight tweak on the franchise's classic look for next season at their draft-day fan party.

San Francisco is moving full-time to a modified version of the cherry-red throwback jerseys they've worn twice each season over the past few years.

The uniforms have a simpler, cleaner look than the everyday jerseys they've worn since the early 1990s, with pure red-and-white jerseys and the familiar three stripes around the shoulder.

The jerseys feature numbers atop the shoulder pads and a "49ers" ligature right above the chest number.

San Francisco also will return to gray facemasks on its helmet, which otherwise won't change much.

The helmet logo will be the same except for the slightly different shade of red.

"We're trying to build a bridge back into the past, but also look into the future," said Andy Dolich, the 49ers' chief operating officer.

Current players Patrick Willis, Joe Staley, Josh Morgan and Dashon Goldson joined former stars Keena Turner, Jamie Williams, Eric Green and Jesse Sapolu in front of cheering fans at the convention center down the street from their training complex.
