De Anza College Athletes Suspected In Teen's Rape
CUPERTINO (AP) ―
Santa Clara County sheriff's officials are investigating members of a community college baseball team and others in the alleged rape of a high school student at a party Saturday night.
Authorities were alerted Saturday by the local hospital that treated the victim.
There have been no arrests or names released, but sheriff's officials said the suspects are students and athletes at De Anza College.
De Anza spokeswoman Marisa Spatafore said that the sheriff's office is investigating several members of the team. "We are deeply concerned," she told the paper.
The college canceled Tuesday's home baseball game and practice, and instead held a team meeting.
Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Ed Wise confirmed the department is looking into a report of a rape Saturday night at a residence in the Burbank District, an unincorporated part of San Jose.
The sheriff's office did not return calls Monday night by the Associated Press seeking comment.
