What It Was Like To Be AT SFO Airport Thursday

by Simon Perez
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ― The new airport security measures led to some long lines at San Francisco International Airport on Thursday.

Transportation Security Administration workers shouted out the new rules to passengers: "If you have any liquid items inside of your bag, that includes everything from lotion to toothpaste to Vaseline, anything in a liquid form, eyedrops, any sort of cologne, perfume unfortunately it is prohibited."

The new rules came out after the TSA raised to orange the threat level for most flights around the country.

As the day went on, most passengers figured out what to do.

Laurette Hartigan started her trip in Los Angeles: "Some things I re-packed like my lipsticks and some of their medicine. But we had some wine from the Napa Valley that we had to leave at home and not bring with us, so that stuff had to stay. So, that was not so fun."

Airports around the country began to back up in the morning, about an hour for almost all domestic flights at SFO.

But by late Thursday, the delays dropped to 15 minutes on only 15 percent of flights.

But that wasn't the case on flights from and to London.

Those flights were delayed by as many as seven hours.

Colin and Alexandria Humble sunned themselves while they waited some nine hours for their flight back to London.

Colin Humble said, "We were nervous this morning, but to be honest I think it's safer now than it would be any other time with the extra security precautions.

Alexandria Humble added: "And this is what the terrorists try to do is create mass panic and why should we let them?"

The list of items the TSA says you cannot bring on the plane includes beverages, perfume, cologne, shampoo, toothpaste, hair gel, contact lens solution, shaving cream and lip gloss.

You are allowed baby formula, breast milk and prescription medication, if it's got the passenger's name on it.

Flights should be back on schedule by the end of the day.
