5 ESCAPE TOWN
CordeValle, St.Martin
Head out of town about twenty minutes south of San Jose to a spot where the sun shines and the birds call, CordeValle in St. Martin. Relax and catch some rays by the pool or swing a club on the nine hole golf course. If it's food you love you will not be disappointed by the offerings from the kitchen. Chef Luka and team bring the flavors of Italy with a California sensibility to this South Bay resort with a menu that boasts many to die for dishes: Dried Beef and Buffalo Mozzarella, Handmade Butternut Squash and Truffled Tortellini, and let's not forget the delicious Prosciutto wrapped short ribs. Wow. Wow. Wow. A great escape just a hop skip and a jump from home.

6 AT THE MOVIES
Julie Julia
NOW Playing in Bay Area theaters.
Three time Oscar winner Meryl Streep takes on Julia Child in Julie Julia a movie about the late great TV chef and famed blogger Julie Powell. The films focuses on two delicious parallel stories: Julia Child as she discovers her passion for cooking while in Paris in the 1950's and and Julie Powell and office worker who just before turning 30 takes on the task of a food blog centered around Julia's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Amy Adams delights as Julie Powell but the screen illuminates with every scene featuring Streep as Child. Seeing this film will make you want to rush home and whip up some Beouff Bourginoin. Bon Appetit..

Head to Golden Gate Park's St ern Grove for a great afternoon of music this Sunday featuring one of Columbia's most beloved artists.. Load your ears with the sounds of Tote La Momposina and Nation Beat. In Colombian culture, a cantadora is a revered teacher and healer. Totó La Momposina earned this title by actively working to preserve the traditions of cumbia, reflecting the influences of African, Spanish, and Caribbean song and dance. The spontaneity of her performances entrances audiences worldwide. See you in the park.

9 CHAMPAGNE WISHES AND CAVIAR DREAMS
Waterbar
399 The Embarcadero, San Francisco
Monday night Champagne and Shellfish Dinner

My recent three course dinner ($40) dinner featured a delicious Dungeness Crab Salad on a bed of watermelon and mint. The main course was Grilled One Half Dungeness Crab in chili and garlic sauce with some shoestring potatoes on the side. The sweet treat at the end came in the form of a Summer Berry Pie that was just heaven. The meal came with champagne pairings for twenty dollars more. One of the best dinners I have had in an age with a million dollar view of the waterfront to boot.

10 HAPPY HOUR
Butterfly
Pier 33, The Embarcadero at Bay Street, San Francisco
Daily 5pm -7pm

It appears that almost every spot in town is offering up a tasty and wallet friendly happy hour and Chef Rob Lam's Butterfly in San Francisco is no exception. The cocktails here are exceptional and a steal during Happy Hour at five dollars a pop. Check the board for the cocktail of the day as they change daily, The Cherry Blossom was the special during my recent visit. The happy hour menu offers a sampling of the talented Chef Lam's Asia meets California cuisine: Smoked salmon and strawberry salad rolls, Pan Fried Shanghai Garlic Noodles, and my personal favorite the Kalua Pig with Butter Lettuce Cups and all for $5. The $1 oyster shooters are also a must have. And ooh, did I mention the Hoisin Baby Back Ribs - delicious. Great food, killer cocktails in an A1 waterfront restaurant - happy hour has never been so good.
