Open Position: Assignment Desk Editor TV/Part Time

Description of Duties:
Monitors breaking news while reading wires, taking phone calls, and coordinating crews and reporters. Must be able to gather, filter, and present urgent local and national news stories. Excellent communication and team building skills required. Strong editorial judgment under extreme deadline pressure. Develop potential story and community contacts with Bay Area newsmakers. Coordinate field crews, Chopper 5, ENG trucks and SNG truck. Track reporter's story progress and assist reporters with story set up. Effectively monitor police, fire and other emergency frequencies on newsroom scanners. Make regular checks of local agencies for potential spot news stories.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of two to three years experience as an Assignment Editor. A college degree in Journalism or Communications or related field required. Exceptional organizational skills, ability to reason and make informed decisions under deadline pressure. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must have the ability to operate a desktop computer and the ability to use the I-News computer system and other computer systems as assigned. Knowledge of Bay Area required. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to operate keyboard with accuracy and speed, and have a valid driver's license in order to work at breaking news locations if needed. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Work environment is fast paced, and includes noise from scanners, two-way radios and televisions.
