Woman Found Gagged At SF Hospital Tried Suicide

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ― An elderly patient found with a washcloth stuffed in her mouth in a room at a California Pacific Medical Center facility had attempted suicide, a spokesman for the hospital told CBS 5 on Thursday.

Spokesman Kevin McCormack said the victim's family asked the hospital to disclose that she had tried to take her own life and the incident was a failed suicide.

"The family believes this to be a tragic event. The patient has been very ill and depressed over her health condition, and attempted to take her own life," said McCormack.

The patient, an Asian woman in her 60s, was found about 8 p.m. Tuesday inside the CPMC facility on California Street and was immediately rushed to intensive care.

McCormack said the woman remained in critical condition on Thursday with life-threatening injuries.

Police, who have been tight-lipped about their investigation into the incident, did not immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday.
