CNET Tech Minute: Wii Used For SF Patients' Rehab

SAN FRANCISCO (CNET) ― Turns out video games can be good for your health.

At San Francisco's St. Mary's Medical Center, a trauma rehabilitation doctor prescribes Nintendo Wii sessions as part of treatment.

This "alternative" medicine results in patients who seem to forget their pain thanks to the gaming fun.

About 100 people have been helped in the physical rehab program, which combines the Wii with other therapies.

It's the brainchild of Dr. David Liu, "self-described techie" and chair of the back and trauma rehab department, who said the games' "fun factor" helps patients forget about weak spots and keep moving.
