AG Brown Issues Medical Pot Dispensary Guidelines
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ―
Local police may soon join federal authorities in cracking down on some of California's hundreds of marijuana dispensaries under guidelines issued by the state attorney general.
Attorney General Jerry Brown released the nonbinding guidelines Monday aimed at clarifying the state's medical marijuana laws.
Brown says formal cooperatives that are registered under the state's Food and Agricultural Code or as less formal "collectives" are legal. But he says that in all instances the organizations must be not-for-profit.
According to the guidelines, anyone running a for-profit storefront dispensary not operating as either a registered cooperative or collective can be arrested and prosecuted by local authorities.
