Hundreds Of Businesses Sign Up For SF Health Plan

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ― A San Francisco program to provide health care to all 73,000 residents of the city who don't have health insurance is getting a big boost after hundreds of businesses signed up.

City officials say more than 700 businesses signed up this week for what's called Healthy San Francisco.

Those businesses represent nearly 13,000 employees, with more than half being eligible for the program.

Businesses that don't offer health insurance and have staffs of between 20 to 49 people had until Wednesday to meet the city-mandated minimum-spending requirement on health care for their employees.

Employers with 50 or more workers had to meet that requirement in January.

In all, 734 employers have decided to use Healthy San Francisco to provide health care to their workers.
