Calif. Budget Crisis May Close Nursing Homes

The record-long California budget stalemate has senior citizens who could be soon out on the street, because their care facilities are not getting paid.
San Miguel Villa in Concord is one of those facilities. Without an approved budget the state has cut off Medi-Cal payments to all nursing homes. Owner Velda Pierce said she has taken out loans to pay for food, staff and utilities. But she may have to close at the end of the month, if a budget is not passed.
