A 15-year-old Alamo girl who saved the life of a fellow BART passenger last month was being honored Wednesday by the Contra Costa Health Services' EMS Division.
On May 13, Sara Broski's quick reaction and recent CPR training kept a 52-year-old woman alive after she suffered from cardiac arrest aboard a train until emergency personnel arrived on scene, according to health services officials.
Sara Broski's father reportedly said his daughter had acquired CPR training to become a camp counselor.
Contra Costa EMS was recognizing Broski Wednesday, as well as simultaneously launching a HeartSafe Community initiative, during the Emergency Medical Care Committee's meeting in the Contra Costa County Schools Insurance Group Conference Room at 550 Ellinwood Way in Pleasant Hill.
The HeartSafe Community initiative aims to strength a community's "chain of survival" by ensuring early access to care, early CPR, early defibrillation, and early advanced care, as well as increase the number of automated external defibrillators in each city and the number of people who are trained to use them, according to health officials.
