Economy Creates Grape Glut In Wine Country
SONOMA COUNTY (CBS 5) ―
2009 is supposed to be a great year for grapes in Wine Country. But grape buyers for wineries have soured on the pristine crop over the recession.
Penny pinching has forced consumers to leave their favorite bottles on store shelves. Wineries are responding by making less wine, and retailers have also slashed prices on the bottles they already have. Grape growers without a buyer are either forced to crush grapes at their own expense or leave the grapes on the vine to rot.
