South SF Tofu Maker Fined Over Food Safety
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / AP) ―
A tofu maker on the Peninusla has been ordered to pay $90,000 in fines for inadequate food-safety protections at its plant.
San Mateo County prosecutor John Wilson said there was no evidence anyone became sick from eating products made by Quong Hop & Co. at its South San Francisco factory.
But Wilson said the company did not maintain sanitary conditions, including a failure to prevent pests from entering food-processing areas.
The violations were found during state Public Health Department inspections, though authorities say a Wednesday inspection did not find further violations.
Quong Hop does business under names including Soy Deli, Soy Fresh and Raquel's.
A message left with the company seeking comment was not immediately returned.
