Chinese Jigong Candy Recalled Over Lead Content

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― The California Department of Public Health warned consumers not to eat an imported Chinese candy called Jigong Chayote after it was found to have unsafe levels of lead.

Recent tests found 0.68 parts per million of lead, and candies with more than 0.10 ppm are considered contaminated, the CDPH said. Jigong Chayote's Union City distributor, King Wai Trading Center, has voluntarily recalled the candy.

The CDPH said pregnant women and children who might have eaten the candy should see a doctor to determine if they need lead testing.
The candy's packaging has a gold colored lid with a picture of a warrior, Chinese symbols and orange fruit. "Jigong" is printed in green on a black background.

Anyone who finds the Jigong Chayote candy for sale can call the CDPH complaint hotlines at (800) 495-3232.
