SoCal Company Recalls Jalapeno Nacho Slices

A California food company is voluntarily recalling 580 cases of its La Torre Jalapeno Nacho Slices due to possible contamination, the Monterey County Department of Health announced Friday.
Fontana-based Peppers Unlimited Inc. reportedly sold the recalled products nationwide through food distributors and food retailers.
The potential contamination might be from a chemical reaction between the product and the can, possibly resulting in a swollen or ruptured container and off flavor, according to the health department.
The Jalapeno Nacho Slices were sold in 425-gram cans with yellow, red, white and black labels displaying a picture of jalapeno slices. The La Torre logo is shown in black and "Jalapeno Nacho Slices" is shown in white.
The recalled cans are numbers AU4D6, AU4E6, AU515, AU516, AU520, AU526, AU5H6, AU5L6, AU5M6, AU8W6, AU955, AU9V5, AU9W5, AU9X5, AU9Y5 and AU9Z5. In some cases the lots may have the letter "A" or "B" following the lot number or may not have a lot number, according to the health department.
Customers who have opened cans of the affected products or used them in recipes should immediately throw the cans and food away, and unopened cans may be returned to the place of purchase for a refund, health department officials said.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products, health department officials said.
