Salmonella-Tainted Ground Beef Sold At Safeway

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) ― The U.S. Department of Agriculture has informed Safeway that it may have received raw ground beef products contaminated with potentially deadly Salmonella bacteria.

Stores in California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada and New Mexico got the tainted beef between September and November.

The USDA is advising customers to look for and discard any ground beef dated September 19 through November 4.

There have been 38 documented illnesses and the USDA has issued a health alert. Salmonella poisoning can be deadly in extreme cases.
