SJ May Impose Moratorium On Fast Food Restaurants
SAN JOSE (CBS 5 / KCBS) ―
San Jose could impose a one year moratorium on the opening of fast food restaurants.
The idea was proposed by Councilwoman Nora Campos who argued that fast food restaurants serve unhealthy meals that promote obesity especially among children.
Her proposal calls for banning fast food outlets from opening for a full year and to impose a permanent ban on fast food restaurants within 1,000 feet of schools.
"When you see statistics that say that this generation of children will not outlive their parents, it's our responsibility as a government to start looking at how we can change things," said Campos.
Not everyone agrees with Campos' plan. Councilman Pete Constant said the city should not be discouraging business.
Campos' proposal is under consideration at the committee level.
