Point A to B #4: South Bay to the Coast - 1/21/08
Brian and Liam pick two towns randomly out of a hat and travel between the two. This popular new series finds the duo starting in Silicon Valley and weaving their way to the San Mateo Coast. It's a great route!!!
OUR ROUTE: From Apple Headquarters in Cupertino, we head south on Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road, taking a right on Big Basin Way (Highway 9). After a stop at the beautiful Hakone Gardens, we continue west on Highway 9 until we reach Skyline Blvd. Take a right! (However, if you're ever in the mood for a gorgeous scenic drive in the afternoon, stay on Highway 9 and head towards Boulder Creek. In the afternoon, as the sun begins to cast it's golden light, the vistas are breathtaking!
Okay, back to the drive… Continue North on Skyline Blvd until you reach Alice's Restaurant in Sky Londa. There, you'll take a sharp left onto Highway 84 towards La Honda. Instead of taking Highway 84 directly to San Gregorio, we decided to take a left on Pescadero Road. This road is not for the car sick, but well worth it's cozy drive! Stay on Pescadero Road until you reach Stage Road in Pescadero. Take a right at the four way stop and IMMEDIATELY pull over and ask for a bowl of "50/50" at Duarte's Tavern. (They'll know what you're talking about). Wash it down with a slice of the famed Ollaliberry Pie ala mode!
Leaving Duarte's, stop across the street to Arcangeli's Deli, also known as Norm's Market. Pick up a loaf of their Artichoke Herb bread.
Get back on Pescadero Road heading west towards the coast. Take a right on Highway 1, stopping off at one of the two State beaches, before you get to Highway 84. Take a right on 84 and head less than a mile to San Gregorio General Store. If you time your drive right, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, you'll enjoy live music with the locals!
