SF Supervisors Delay Solar Rebate Plan
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / KCBS) ―
San Francisco may have a reputation as a green city, but solar energy advocates are seeing red over yet another delay at the Board of Supervisors in a solar rebate program.
The city Public Utilities Commission adopted a $3 million rebate program without running it by the supervisors. As supervisors got wind of the plan, the plan was halted several months ago.
On Wednesday, the Board's finance committee again held up the program, despite protests from residents who either wanted the solar price break or see the program as a way to generate jobs in the community.
"These are entry level jobs, they are jobs that become skilled jobs," expressed one disappointed resident. "All I want to know is pass the plate, you put it on there, pass it," pleaded another.
Supervisor Jake McGoldrick cautioned residents against laying blame with the Board of Supervisors. "I think we should be grateful that we have a Board of Supervisors that pauses and asks questions," he offered. "So those issues that have to do with process or why we landed up here."
