One year after the Cosco Busan oil spill, officials said there are few signs of environmental damage in San Francisco Bay.
More than 50,000 gallons of thick fuel oil leaked into the bay after the container ship hit a support tower of the Bay Bridge during heavy fog on Nov. 7 last year.
The spill fouled miles of shoreline and killed more than 2,000 birds. About $90 million has been spent on cleanup efforts so far.
Coast Guard and state wildlife officials said that San Francisco Bay appears to have mostly recovered from the spill, though a complete recovery will likely take one to five years.
Officials indicated that the Dungeness crab fishing season, which starts Nov. 15, is not expected to be affected by the spill.
