Chemical Spill Closes Los Altos Road Near I-280

A chemical spill prompted a street closure near Interstate Highway 280 in Los Altos Saturday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Units first responded to reports of an oil slick on an on-ramp from northbound Foothill Boulevard to southbound Highway 280 at around 10:30 p.m., CHP Officer Robert Haven said.

Arriving officers reported finding a chemical spill that could be oil or hydraulic fluid that had coated the on-ramp and a portion of Foothill Boulevard. The spill covered about 200 feet of the roadway and was four feet wide in places, Haven said.

Foothill Boulevard was shut down while a hazardous materials team arrives with absorbent. The highway onramp was also shut down.
