Calif. Rep. To Grill EPA Staff On Emissions Ruling

 Environment & The Green Beat

WASHINGTON (AP) ― Democratic Congressman Henry Waxman of LosAngeles wants to depose key EPA officials about why the agency denied California a federal waiver needed to cut greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks.

Waxman, who chairs the House oversight committee, sent a letter Monday to the head of the EPA naming seven officials he wants to interview, including the heads of several air quality divisions.

Waxman said that because the conduct of EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson is under investigation it may not be appropriate for EPA lawyers to attend. He wants EPA to agree to a schedule for the depositions by Wednesday.

Waxman's request comes as the agency has so far failed to turn over documents sought by Congress on last month's waiver denial.
