New Apollo Program To Create Green Collar Jobs
SAN LEANDRO (CBS 5 / KCBS) ―
A green stimulus package is being introduced called the New Apollo Program.
The idea is to create jobs while moving America away from oil dependence.
Apollo Alliance Chair, and former California Treasurer, Phil Angelides expects the 10-year program to generate and invest $5 billion and create more than five million high-quality "green collar" jobs.
The organization gets its name and inspiration from the ingenuity that sparked its predecessor.
"We're making the kind of commitment John F. Kennedy made when he launched the first Apollo Mission," said Angelides.
Senator Barbara Boxer voiced her approval at the program's 'Roll Out Event' at San Leandro's IEBW Electrical Training Center.
"What could be better than a project to get us off foreign oil, makes us energy independent, fight global warming...and create great paying jobs?" asked Senator Boxer.
The Apollo Alliance is taking its plan on the road -- unveiling the "Clean Energy, Good Jobs" message in Ohio, Washington and Michigan in the next week.
