Berkeley Waives Permit Fees For Solar Installation
BERKELEY (BCN) ―
The city of Berkeley on Tuesday began waiving building permit fees for solar installation on single-family homes, city officials announced.
"Going solar is one of the most effective ways to reduce energy and reverse climate change," said Mayor Tom Bates in a prepared statement. "The solar installation fee waiver reduces one more barrier for Berkeley residents to go solar."
The Berkeley City Council passed the legislation and it was finalized into the city's budget in July, said Julie Sinai, chief of staff to Bates.
The City Council allocated an initial $25,000 to cover the fees that will range from $100 to $200 per home, according to city officials.
