San Francisco and Oakland brightened up Friday evening when Christmas trees were lit during ceremonies at Ghiradelli and Jack London squares.
In the ceremony at Jack London Square in Oakland, Mayor Ron Dellums flipped the switch on the 4,500 energy efficient lights covering the 55-foot tall tree.
Prior to that tree lighting, choirs from throughout the Bay Area will competed in the High School Choir Competition, followed by other local bands.
At Ghiradelli Square's ceremony in San Francisco, the lighting of the 35-foot tall tree was led by CBS 5 weather anchor Roberta Gonzales.
