Matthew McConaughey's long time girlfriend Camila Alves gave birth to a baby boy Monday night. The baby is the first child for both. People.com is reporting that Alves gave birth at 6:22 p.m. in Los Angeles and he weighs 7 lbs., 4 oz.

"One thing I've heard that's consistent is that whatever plans you make, throw them out the window because it's not a science," McConaughey said recently. "But I've got the instincts for it, and I know Camila does, and I'm looking forward to the big adventure."

McConaughey, a Texas native, has appeared in films including "The Wedding Planner" and "Sahara" and was named People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 2005.

Alves is a Brazilian model.
