Court Approves Home Schooling In California

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ― A California appeals court said Friday that parents without teaching credentials may home school their children.

The state appeals court reversed its early ruling barring noncredentialed home schools after dozens of teaching organizations defended the growing practice.

The governor, attorney general and state school officials submitted legal arguments supporting the current home schooling system.

Supporters said some 166,000 students are home schooled in the state.

The court called on the state Legislature to clarify the law.
