Orchard School recently flipped the switch on a new solar power system.
The solar panels provide half of the school's electrical needs and puts badly needed dollars back into school coffers.
Unlike many other schools with solar power that partner with large corporations, Orchard owns its own system outright. The school can reap the benefits of solar rebates and renewable energy credits.
Along with PG&E credits, the savings add up to an extra $160,000 in the bank, which can be used for any purpose such as student programs, equipment or teachers.
