Joe Montana's Son Leaves De La Salle High

CONCORD (CBS 5 / MaxPreps) ― Nick Montana is leaving Concord's De La Salle High School.

The Contra Costa Times reported that the son of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana is transferring from the high school football powerhouse, and will be enrolling at Oaks Christian School in the Southern California city of Westlake Village this fall.

The younger Montana, also a quarterback, would have been entering his junior year at De La Salle and likely would have shared time on the defending national champion team with last year's part-time starter Blake Wayne.

Now, the strong armed 6-foot-2 Montana will have to compete with six quarterbacks at Oaks Christian.

Last season, Montana led De La Salle's junior varsity team to a record of 9-1.

With Montana's addition to the OC Lions, at least three iconic figures will be in the stands this fall rooting for the highly visible Southern California program.

Also on the team is Trevor Gretzky, son of NHL Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky, and Trey Smith, son of actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett.

"Michael Jordan said his son's coming and Babe Ruth's great, great grandson is supposed to enroll," Oaks Christian coach Bill Redell joked to the Ventura County Star newspaper.
