Martinez May Use Reserve Funds To Aid Schools
MARTINEZ (CBS 5) ―
Schools in Martinez, along with many others in the Bay Area, are facing the possibility of larger class sizes and teacher layoffs this fall. But the city has ended up with a cash cushion that may be used to help out the schools.
The school district said it needs $500,000 to prevent layoffs and the larger classes. Martinez actually has some cash in reserve. The city has not been hit hard with foreclosures and has not relied on car dealers for their tax base. The City Council is expected to decide soon on whether to dig into reserve funds.
