About 20 kindergarten teachers in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District will be out of work next year as school officials make more cuts to the district's budget.
In the sixth round of budget reductions since December, the school board voted to cut $710,000 from the 2008-09 school budget Tuesday night.
District officials say cutting the 20 positions will save more than $500,000 a year. Money that goes to middle and high school library services will also be trimmed by 20 percent.
Since the board started making cuts in December more than 100 jobs in teaching and other areas have been eliminated from the 35,000-student district.
