$800K Donation Helps Save Sports In SJ Schools
SAN JOSE (CBS 5 / KCBS) ―
High school sports have been saved for next year in San Jose's East Side Union High School District.
An $800,000 contribution from the district's general fund and last minute fundraising helped bridge the budget gap for all sports.
District Associate Superintendent Alan Garofolo said that even with all the help from the community, students would still have to pay a $200 donation to fund the athletic programs throughout the year.
"Now we know that not everybody is going to be able to afford that $200 participation donation. So the rest is going to have to be made up through fundraising efforts," Garofolo said.
Students who plan on participating in more than one sport will only be charged a flat fee.
